November Newsletter

Dear Kindergarten Parents,

Thanks to all of you for making parent-teacher conferences so successful. Please don’t hesitate to call me (098723850) or e-mail me ( mgranados@interamerican.edu.ec ) if you have any questions or concerns.

Language Arts:
We have learned the names of the letters of the alphabet. We have learned to identify upper case letters and lower case letters. We are ready to learn the sounds the consonant letters stand for as well as the short vowel sounds.

Here are some sound-and-letter activities you and your child can do together.
• Help your child identify the letters that begin the names of familiar things around the house—toothbrush, bed, refrigerator, sink.
• At mealtimes, write on a card the beginning letter of each food you are serving. Have your child match the letters and the foods.
• Create a short vowel dictionary by labeling five sheets of paper with the letters Aa, Ee, Ii, Oo, and Uu. Your child can draw or paste pictures of things that begin with those letters on each page.

Math:
- We will continue to learn numbers 0-10.
- We will be learning how to estimate and measure how long things are, how much they weigh, and how much they can hold. You can help your child practice by taking him/her to the grocery store with you. Here is what your child needs to do:
• Hold a different fruit in each hand. Tell which is lighter and which is heavier.
• Place two vegetables side-by-side. Tell which is shorter and which is longer.

Social Studies:

We will learn the following concepts:
• Learn about the families around South America. Compare them to our own families.
• Learn about Ecuador and its regions.

Science:

1. We will continue to learn about insects.
2. We will take care of our tomato garden.
3. Living and non living things
4. Food: making healthy choices

Thanks for all your help and support,
Ms. Monica
