Sight Words:
Enclosed is the list of sight words that the kindergarten class will learn this year. We will start with the Preprimer list and if time allows we will move on to the Primer list. Every Monday, the students will take home a bag with three sight words. They have to study them at home and bring the bag with the words back to school every day. They will have a Spelling Test every Friday. For the tests, the students should be able to recognize the sight words that they learn each week. (The words will always be on the board for them to see at all times.) I do not expect them to spell the words, only to copy them from the board.
Everyday Math:
Last week we began a new math curriculum called Everyday Math. The Everyday Math program introduces children to six major mathematical content areas: number sense, algebra, measurement, geometry, data analysis, and probability. The program helps children build and maintain basic skills through using everyday real-world problems and situations to develop critical thinking skills. Keep an eye on your child’s folder for special handouts with fun math activities to do at home. I will occasionally send these sheets home and they relate to the math lesson that your child learned that day. Please take the opportunity to read it and try the activities at home.
Early Release:
On Tuesday, November 10 children will be released from class at 11:00 am
