Book Week & Book Swap: This week (May 25 to 28) will be Book Week. This means that we will have 20 minutes each day of D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) time each day. Your child can bring a favorite book for us to read during this time. Also, Ms Leda in the library is collecting books for a book swap. Bring in a few books in good condition (any language) and your child can pick the same number of new books to bring home! The book swap will be on May 27 and 28.

May Newsletter

Dear Kindergarten Parents,

On Friday, May 7th the Nursery, Pre-K, Kinder, and Grade 1 would like to honor their mothers. At 7:45 am we will gather in the cafeteria for a short presentation by each of the classes. Following there will be coffee, juice, and food for mothers to enjoy. We hope that you will be available to attend this special event. Children could wear nice clothing on this day instead of wearing school uniform.

We would like to visit the Planetarium during this month. I will send more information soon!

Language Arts:
We will continue to read books with long vowel sounds as well as with “th”, “sh”, “ph”, and “ch” sounds. We will write words phonetically as well as copying sight words from the board to write sentences. We will make sure we leave “finger spaces” between words, begin sentences with upper case letters, and end sentences with periods before we go to first grade!!

Math:
We will be learning about adding and subtracting. You could practice with your child what he/she has learned by telling each other stories about animals. Here is what you can do:
1. Get 10 buttons or pennies and pretend they are dogs.
2. Pretend a plastic container is a doghouse.
3. Have your child put 4 dogs in the doghouse. You add 1 more dog and tell how many in all.
4. You can put 6 dogs in the doghouse. Have your child take 2 away and tell how many are left.
5. Use different numbers and tell other dog stories.
