Monday Update

Spring Cleaning: NHS is sponsoring a flea market for the village of San Pablo. If you are going through the traditional “spring cleaning” of sorting and purging, we would love to have any of your old clothes, shoes, kitchen items, books, and/or games. You can bring any of your used items between April 23rd and May 14th. We will be taking these items to the San Pablo school for our annual flea market. All proceeds for the flea market go to the Ark of Hope foundation. We are also holding a class competition for nursery through 12th grade for the most donations. The class that donates the most items per person will win a pizza party. Thank you for your help and support!

Unity Day and Early Release Day: Student Council has organized Unity Day; a special event for Elementary children on Tuesday, April 27. On the morning of our early release the children will be participating in fun activities such as: tug of war, balloon game, bobbing for apples, relay race, egg race, and slip & slide. Please make sure your child brings a hat, running shoes, water bottle, sunscreen, and extra set of clothes on that day.

On Tuesday, April 27 children will be released from class at 11:00 am.

Update

Social Studies:
As this month we celebrate “Earth Day” we are starting a recycling program in the kindergarten class. I've asked all my students to bring from home recyclables items, such as plastic containers, cans, glass or cardboard. Please make sure that these containers are properly washed at home before sending them to school. I have also asked them to bring in newspapers or magazines from home. Please help your child in this great task.

Science:
Another task that students in kindergarten have throughout this month is to look at the night sky before bedtime. Every day we are talking about different forms of the moon and the different stars we see in the sky. They are also learning about the constellations, so please help accompanying your children to observe the sky and be very creative with them.

April Newsflash

Dear Kindergarten Parents,

It is now the beginning of the last quarter. During this month we will try to visit a farm as a closure of our Farm Unit. Any suggestions? I have in mind two options, Finca La Gloria and Hacienda Rosa Herminia.

Language Arts: We continue to practice long vowel sounds and the sounds the following letters make together: “th”, “sh”, “ph”, and “ch”. We will also continue to read at school and at home the leveled readers books.

Math:
• We will learn how to count, write, and use larger numbers. You can practice counting by planting a window garden. Here is how:
1. Make a window box from margarine tubs with holes punched in the bottoms.
2. Place them on a tray.
3. Decide what to grow.
4. Get the seeds.
5. Count how many will fit.
6. Plant them.
7. Give the plants enough water and light to grow.

• We will continue to learn how to count by twos, fives and tens.

Social Studies: How do calendars help us?

Science: Planets, sun, moon and stars

Have a wonderful month!
Ms. Monica
