Wet Day Procedures

During the rainy season (January –April) all elementary students should bring to school a change of clothing and rain gear with them every day. This should remain in their backpack.

During light rain all students must wear rain gear during recess times and students must stay under the covered areas.

In the case of heavy rain during recess classroom teachers will be notified via the school intercom system and/or
e- mail, and all students are to remain in their classroom for recess times with their homeroom teacher.

On the rare occasions when heavy rains persist during lunch time a ‘wet lunch’ will be declared by the administration office, and students and teachers will remain in class during the lunch period except for eating; in this instance classroom teachers will remain in the cafeteria during designated eating times and then return students back to class for the remainder of lunch.

International Day – Saturday, March 27

Plan to attend International Day at IA on Saturday March 27 from 11:00 to 2:00. The cafeteria will be set up with the projects that the Kindergarten children have created to learn about South America. There will be games and opportunities to learn about the different cultural groups at our school. Kindergarten and Pre-K will dance the samba from Brazil! If you would like you may dress your child in the traditional clothing of your home country! They may also wear clothing from South America that I have available. Just let me know you would like your child wearing a South American outfit (if you haven't done so!). I will be sending the outfits home tomorrow so they can be washed prior to the International Fair, since they haven't been washed in a year! Hope to see you there!

Assembly
We invite all parents to attend to the elementary assembly. The Kindergarten class will sing a song in Spanish with Ms. Primavera Velasquez. We hope to see you all at the assembly on Friday at 1:45.

March Newsletter

Dear Kindergarten Parents,

It is almost the end of the third quarter. Your children have been working hard to accomplish all our class goals. During this month we will have Parent-Teacher conferences. Please be ready to sign up for a conference with me and/or any other teacher.

After School Activities
There will be no after school activities March 1 to 12, please plan to promptly pick up your child. A new signup sheet will be sent after the Carnival break for Season 3 ASAs. Season 3 ASAs will begin on Monday, March 15 and end on Friday, May 28.

International Day
The 2010 IA International Day will be held on Saturday, March 27 from 11:00 to 2:00. Please note the change of date. We are looking for South American clothing and/or artesian crafts to decorate our booth, please let us know if you would be willing to bring them in!

Language Arts:
We will continue to practice the short vowel sounds and the sound the following letters make together: “th”, “sh”, “ph”, “wh” and “ch”. We will also learn the long vowel sounds during this month.

You could now create a long vowel dictionary by labeling five sheets of paper with the letters Aa, Ee, Ii, Oo, and Uu. Your child can draw or paste pictures of things with those letter sounds on each page.

High Frequency Words:
The high frequency word for the week of February 1, 2010 is here. Don’t forget to review all the High Frequency Words that we have learned: I, see, my, like, to, and, go, is.

Math:
• We will finish our unit on time and money.
• We will be learning about joining, separating, and comparing groups. You could practice with your child by having him/her help wash the dishes. Here is what you can do:
CLEAR THE TABLE:
1. Ask him/her to bring 2 dishes to the sink.
2. Then, ask him/her to bring 3 more dishes.
3. You will count and tell how many dishes in the sink all together.
4. You can repeat with different combination until the table is clear.
* Help your child tell “joining” or “separating” stories about things you see in your neighborhood. For example: There were 2 people at the bus stop. Then 2 more people came. Now there are 4 people.

Social Studies: We will finish our unit on South America and we will learn about holidays.

Science: -We will be learning about the human body and things around them.
-We will also learn about farm animals.
- During this month we will be able to taste our delicious tomatoes!

Thanks for all your help and support and have a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!

Ms. Monica
