December Newsletter

Dear Kindergarten Parents,

Christmas is almost here!!! Before our Christmas break (Dec. 18th) we will have our Christmas Party… We will be playing Secret Santa that day. Each child will receive a Christmas present from someone else in the class, BUT IT WILL BE A SURPRISE!! I’ll keep you posted!!

Language Arts:

This weeks’ sight words are for, funny and go. Next weeks’ words will be help, hers and I. Remember to help your child study them at home and bring the bag with the words back to school every day (inside the homework folder).
Remember, for the sight word/spelling tests, the students should be able to recognize all the sight words that they have learned. (The words will always be on the board for them to see at all times.) I do not expect them to spell the words, just to copy them from the board. There is also 1 sentence that I will dictate as a closure of the test. This sentence could include some sight words, high frequency words (also on the board) and words they will have to sound out phonetically.

Math:
We will continue to learn to estimate and measure how long things are, how much they weigh, and how much they can hold.

Social Studies:
We will continue to learn about countries in South America. This past month we learned about Ecuador and Colombia. We will learn about the Guyanas and Peru this month. The kindergarten students will also learn about “needs” vs. “wants”.

Science:

We will continue to learn about animals from South America and taking care of our tomato garden.

Happy Holidays!
Ms. Monica
