Monday Reminder

Dear Parents,

Although some of you said you prefer notes in folder, I will send all my notes via e-mail as well. If you happen to have access to it everyday and decide you don't want the notes in the folder any more, please let me know. That way we use less paper and “save some trees”!

A few reminders:
1. Attendance: Please remember that the school day starts at 7:30. Students who arrive later than 7:30 will be sent to the office for a pass to be admitted in the classroom. Please make it a habit to arrive on time.

2. Library: Don't forget to send library books by Tuesday. Your child may not check out a new book until his or her book is returned.

3.After School Activities: (ASA) sheets were given out last week. Please return the sheet by FRIDAY so your child can participate in all of the fun activities offered after school.

4. Open House: We invite parents to our Elementary Open House held on Thursday, September 3 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.

5. Math Test: We will have a Math Test on Chapter 1 on Friday. Please review with your child the following terms:
- Top, middle, bottom

Monday Reminder

Dear Parents,

It is great to be in our second week of school! Your children are now learning some routines that happen throughout each day. They now know where to put their folders every morning, where to put the library books, etc. Students also have some duties to follow each week, such as being the line leader, the library book person, the paper person, the messenger, the light person, etc. They are performing these duties with great responsibility. 

I am attaching a Child Information Sheet. Please fill it out and return it to me by Friday.

You could find all the Kindergarten News at the following website: http://www.kindergartenIA.blogspot.com

Don’t forget…
1. to return library books by Tuesday! If your child doesn’t return it by Tuesday, s/he will not be able to check out another book.

2. tomorrow it is Cap day!

Have a great week!
Ms. Monica

August Newsletter

Dear Kindergarten Parents,

This is the first newsletter you will receive this year. I will send home a weekly newsletter to keep you informed of what is happening in the classroom. Please contact me at any time if you have a question or a concern. My cell phone is 098723850.

SNACKS
We have two snacks a day, one at 9:00 a.m. and the other at 10:40 a.m. Please send nutritious food for your child every day and avoid sending candy, soda, or gum.

LUNCH
Lunch will be at 11:35 this year. You are welcome to send nutritious food for lunch or to buy lunch from the cafeteria for your child. Please contact Ms. Paola at the office.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE:
It is very important for students to be on time every day. Classes begin at 7:30 a.m. If the student arrives later than 7:45 a.m., s/he will be sent to the principal’s office to get a pass in order to be allowed in her/his class.

LIBRARY:
This year your child will visit the library on Tuesdays. The students will be allowed to check out one book per week. In order for the students to check out a new book the next week, they need to return the book they checked out the week before.

HOMEWORK FOLDER
I will send home the Homework Folder everyday with homework and important announcements. Please make sure you go through the folder and return it to school the next day.

HOMEWORK
I will send one page of homework per day. Please make sure your child completes both, the front and the back of the page.

FRIDAY FOLDER
This folder will go home every Friday with all the work your child has done throughout the week. Please empty it and return it to school on Monday.

PILLOWS AND BLANKETS:
They will go home every Friday to get washed and be returned the next Monday.

MATH
During the next couple of weeks we’ll be learning words that help us describe things and words that tell where things are. You could practice with your child by playing a game of “I SPY”. Here is what you can do:
You would be the spy.
Secretly choose a thing in the room.
Tell him/her one clue at a time.
Use words like red, square, above or between.
Give him/her clues until he/she guesses the secret thing.
Then he/she can be the spy and you can guess!!

LANGUAGE ARTS
For the next few weeks we’ll be learning about the letters of the alphabet. You will have many opportunities to help your child become familiar with letters. Here are some activities you and your child might enjoy doing:
* Help your child print his/her name. Then name each letter together.
* The next time you are out shopping with your child, play an alphabet game. Name a letter and ask your child to find that letter on a sign, license plate, and so on.
* Show your child how to write the names of family members, pets and friends. Help your child identify the letters in each name.

SCIENCE
We will learn the following concepts:
- 5 Senses
- Parts of the body
- Growing and changing

SOCIAL STUDIES
We will learn about school. In kindergarten it is very important that your child learns to work together with other children and to follow classroom rules. Please make sure you reinforce these rules at home.

I am looking forward to sharing this year with you and your child.

Sincerely,
Ms. Monica Granados
